Lord Swire, Deputy Chair of CWEIC, has received his Freedom of the City of London. Lord Swire was nominated by Alderman and former Lord Mayor Sir William Russell, and Alderman Prem Goyal OBE.
The tradition of the Freedom of the City of London has its origins dating back to the 13th century, when being a freeman was an indispensable condition for those aspiring to engage in business and thrive in trade within the Square Mile.
While it is no longer obligatory to hold the status of a freeman to work in the City, the rich and proud history of the City of London has led countless individuals to consider it a distinct privilege to be granted admission to the Freedom of the City.
