Irwin Mitchell Unveils Latest ‘Investment Attractiveness Index’ Ranking UK’s 50 Largest Cities for Foreign Direct Investment

Our Strategic Partner, Irwin Mitchell, in partnership with Cebr, has released the latest *Foreign Direct Investment Report*. This comprehensive analysis ranks the UK’s 50 largest cities based on their investment attractiveness, considering factors such as growth potential, local skills, and infrastructure.

The key findings highlight London’s continued dominance as the most attractive investment destination, thanks to its highly skilled workforce, world-class universities, and vibrant business ecosystem. Brighton stands out as the top city outside of London, demonstrating exceptional business creation and local skills. Edinburgh emerges as the leading city outside London and the South East, offering robust infrastructure and regional opportunities. Coventry has notably improved its investment attractiveness score by 18 places year-on-year, despite economic challenges. Additionally, often-overlooked regions such as Stockport, Bradford, Doncaster, and Kirklees show significant potential for growth and investment.

Even amidst economic headwinds, FDI remains a crucial driver of economic prosperity. Policymakers and business leaders must recognise the importance of attracting foreign investment by fostering an investor-friendly environment and building strategic partnerships. Following the general election, Labour has emphasised the importance of FDI, focusing on economic growth, policy adaptation, cross-border collaboration, and strengthening ties with Europe.
