Lord Swire Visits Sarawak as InvestSarawak becomes a Strategic Partner of CWEIC

CWEIC is further strengthening its partnership with Sarawak, Malaysia, to boost international investments and technological advancements in the region. This comes at a pivotal moment as InvestSarawak joins CWEIC as a Strategic Partner. On February 17, during a visit to Kuching, CWEIC Deputy Chairman Lord Swire engaged in productive discussions with Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, focusing on key sectors such as renewable energy, digital economy, and aerospace.

Lord Swire highlighted Sarawak’s remarkable progress in green hydrogen development, digital transformation, and the semiconductor industry, identifying these areas as prime opportunities for collaboration. He noted, “Sarawak is demonstrating remarkable ambition in fostering investment across multiple industries. From renewable energy and oil and gas to education and cybersecurity, the state is actively positioning itself as a dynamic investment hub.”

Lord Swire was also pleased to pay a courtesy visit to the Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, commenting to local press that “We have over 140 members who are eager to explore partnerships in Sarawak, as I believe the region is making significant strides in various sectors, particularly in renewable energy, oil and gas, education, and cybersecurity.” Also present at the meeting were Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, MINTRED Advisor Dato Sri Naroden Majais, and InvestSarawak CEO Timothy Ong.

This visit builds upon the foundation laid by CWEIC’s Chairman Lord Marland’s engagement with Sarawak’s leadership last year, reflecting our ongoing commitment to fostering trade and investment across the 56 Commonwealth member states. Additionally, a delegation of Sarawakian businesses is set to visit the United Kingdom during the Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit in April 2025, further strengthening international collaboration.

During his time in Sarawak, Lord Swire was briefed by SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd on Sarawak’s hydrogen economy and its plans to export green hydrogen.

He also met SMD Semiconductor Sdn Bhd to discuss the potential for UK-Sarawak partnerships in the high-tech manufacturing sector.
