As part of a visit to Sri Lanka to grow the network, Lord Swire, Deputy Chair of CWEIC, was pleased to meet with the Group Chairman, George Steuart & Company, to discuss potential avenues for collaboration.

George Steuart Group, founded in 1835, is Sri Lanka’s oldest mercantile establishment and a diversified conglomerate. Initially a trading company, it has since expanded into industries such as healthcare, travel, finance, tea, and real estate. The group played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s tea industry and continues to be a significant player in the country’s corporate landscape. With nearly two centuries of history, George Steuart Group maintains a reputation for stability, innovation, and business excellence across multiple sectors.

In May 2024, Sarva Ameresekere was appointed Group Chairman of George Steuart & Company. Prior to this role, he served as Group Executive Director and has been on the Board since 2020. Ameresekere holds degrees in business and engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He has extensive local and international experience, including serving as CEO of the Triad Group since 2008.
