Hub Director – Caribbean
Eric Bush, Cert. Hon., JP, is a distinguished public servant with more than two decades of dedicated service to the Cayman Islands, currently serving as Chief Officer for the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, and Development (PAHID) and as the Caribbean Hub Director for the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC).
Eric began his career in public service with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, serving eight years and attaining the rank of Detective Sergeant. Transitioning into central government, he held prominent leadership positions, including Chief Officer for the Portfolio of Internal and External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs. In these roles, he oversaw vital departments such as Police, Immigration, Her Majesty’s Prison Service, and the Fire Service, demonstrating strategic capability in managing complex operational environments.
From 2016 to 2019, Eric served as the Cayman Islands’ Representative to the United Kingdom and Europe, notably hosting the Overseas Territories International Trade Summit and establishing the Commonwealth Climate Growth Fund. These landmark initiatives significantly enhanced the international profile and influence of the Cayman Islands.
In his current role as Chief Officer of PAHID, Eric drives strategic initiatives such as “PlanCayman,” promoting sustainable land use that balances development with environmental preservation. He also spearheaded the Cayman Islands Nutrition and Food Security Policy, reinforcing local food production and long-term food resilience. Under his direction, a comprehensive 10-year Public and Affordable Housing Policy was introduced, addressing critical housing needs, and his leadership of infrastructure projects through the National Roads Authority has considerably improved connectivity and stimulated economic growth. As Chairperson of the National Road Safety Strategy, Eric demonstrates a committed focus on public safety, while also championing innovation and sustainability in public transportation systems.
As CWEIC’s Caribbean Hub Director, Eric applies his extensive governmental and diplomatic experience to enhance trade, investment, and economic cooperation among the 56 member countries of the Commonwealth, fostering regional collaboration and sustainable growth.
Eric holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Lynn University, which underpins his strategic, inclusive, and empathetic approach to leadership. His unwavering commitment to sustainable development and the advancement of the Cayman Islands underscores a career defined by visionary leadership and meaningful impact.
