Asantehene’s Silver Jubilee Honored with Gala Dinner and Akwasidae Festival in London

CWEIC Chief Executive Rosie Glazebrook and Deputy Chair Lord Swire recently attended the Asantehene’s Silver Jubilee, marked by a prestigious Royal Gala Dinner and the Akwasidae Festival.

The year 2024 marks the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Asante, commemorating 25 years since he ascended to the Golden Stool in 1999. Throughout his reign over the Ashanti Kingdom, His Majesty has been a close ally and friend to King Charles.

To celebrate this significant milestone in London, a series of special events were organized, including a black-tie dinner at The Peninsula Hotel, attended by prominent figures from the political, cultural, and media sectors. The celebrations also featured the Akwasidae Festival, which showcases the rich culture and heritage of the Ashanti people. This festival is traditionally held every six weeks in the Ashanti region of Ghana, where it plays a crucial role in maintaining the community’s cultural identity and honoring the ancestors.

During the dinner, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II addressed the distinguished guests, expressing his deep appreciation for their presence and support. He articulated his vision for the future, stating, “It is my responsibility to ensure that I generate investments and engage with those who understand the importance of building our country together. It is a delight to be here tonight.” His remarks underscored his commitment to fostering economic growth and strengthening international ties for the benefit of the Ashanti Kingdom and Ghana as a whole.

The Silver Jubilee not only celebrated His Majesty’s enduring leadership but also reinforced the cultural and diplomatic bonds between the Ashanti Kingdom and the broader international community.
