Fortescue Becomes Newest Strategic Partner To Join The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council

The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council is excited to announce that Fortescue has become the newest Strategic Partner in our network.

CWEIC and Fortescue have maintained a strong relationship, with Fortescue participating in multiple Commonwealth Heads of Government Summits in recent years. This official Strategic Partnership underscores Fortescue’s dedication to driving commercial decarbonisation in heavy industry—rapidly, profitably, and on a global scale.

As one of the world’s lowest cost iron ore producers, Fortescue is now shipping at an annual rate of over 180 million tonnes with more than 1.7 billion tonnes of iron ore delivered to their customers since 2008. Through their green energy and technology company FFI, they are rapidly diversifying the business to become an integrated, global green energy and resources company.

Sara Edmonson will represent Fortescue on the Global Advisory Council. Sara joined Fortescue in January 2021 as European Lead with a focus on delivering the company’s growth strategy in Europe. Sara has extensive experience in natural gas and the energy markets having been the Chief Executive of two independent listed energy companies for a combined period of 10 years.

Commenting on the decision to join CWEIC, Sara expressed: “As a global green technology, energy and metals company that is working to accelerate commercial decarbonisation, our engagement across the Commonwealth continues to grow. Fortescue is delighted to join CWEIC as a Strategic Partner and we look forward to working closely with the team.”
