Lord Marland, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, returned to Gibraltar as a guest speaker at the Gibraltar Chamber of Commerce’s Members’ Annual Dinner. The event brought together leading figures from Gibraltar’s key business sectors, including Financial Services, Crypto, Asset Management, and Insurance.
In his address, Lord Marland highlighted Gibraltar’s strengths, including its entrepreneurial spirit, strong rule of law, fiscal advantages, and energetic government, positioning it for continued growth despite global challenges.
While Marland was optimistic about Gibraltar’s prospects, concerns remained over the ongoing Brexit treaty negotiations. Chamber President John Isola stressed the need for greater certainty to allow businesses to plan effectively. Although not mentioned directly by President Isola, sectors like retail and logistics particularly concerned with the potential impact of the treaty on their business model. President Isola also emphasized the private sector’s vital role in Gibraltar’s economy, underscoring its importance to growth, employment, and government revenues.
This marked Lord Marland’s second visit to Gibraltar, following his attendance at the National Day celebrations in September. His visit reinforced confidence in Gibraltar’s ability to thrive despite wider economic challenges.
