Any international organisation is only as valuable as its ability to respond to new challenges – and, speaking to New Zealand-based Pacific Media Network, CWEIC Deputy Chair Lord Swire demonstrated that the Commonwealth is doing just that.
Speaking to PMN’s ‘Alakihihifo Vailala, Lord Swire recognised the importance of climate change as a central issue for the Commonwealth’s Pacific members, but also noted the necessity of private sector involvement in addressing this global challenge. He also emphasised CBF 2024’s role in “encouraging companies to go more green”, with the Forum providing a perfect opportunity to foster partnerships between governments and businesses, at a time when countries around the world are in the process of transitioning towards more sustainable economic models.
Lord Swire also touched on the Commonwealth’s natural advantages as a trading bloc, and as a forum for collaboration and problem solving.
