The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) recently led a delegation of operators, businessmen, and investors to Gabon Special Economic Zone, spearheaded by Lord Swire, Deputy Chair of CWEIC. This mission was part of our ongoing commitment to fostering economic partnerships and investment within the region.
During the visit, which coincided with the International Advisory Council Meeting for the Cameroon, Gabon, and Togo Hub, the CWEIC delegation delved into the potential collaborations at the Gabon Special Economic Zone Administrative Authority of Nkok. Of particular interest were the opportunities in wood processing and business diversification, aligning perfectly with our goal of promoting trade and investment across member countries. The Administrator General of the SEZ, Samy Biveghe presented Lord Swire the pole of excellence for the industrialisation of the wood chain in Gabon, and diversification of the national economy through several levels of transformation and sectors of industrial activities.
The visit also facilitated valuable exchanges of information and skills, with an emphasis on sharing insights from the Gabonese model. This knowledge exchange is pivotal for member countries seeking to develop similar economic zones, showcasing the power of collaboration within the Commonwealth.
A highlight of the trip was the insightful tour of Tropical Forest Products, a leading manufacturer specializing in particleboard production from log waste. These high-quality panels play a crucial role in the construction and furnishing sectors, contributing to various finished products such as slabs, walls, and furniture for residential and commercial spaces.
CWEIC is very grateful to the Gabon High Commission to the United Kingdom for the facilitation of the visit to the Special Economic Zone and Lord Swire’s trip to Gabon.
